Egypt's investment minister tours Alexandria industrial zones to spur exports
Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Dr. Mohamed Fared, conducted a two‑day field mission in Alexandria, focusing on the Al‑Aamriya General Free Zone and the city’s major ports.
He inspected a range of factories, including Pharma Plast (medical supplies), Alex Apparel (ready‑made clothing) and Cold Alex (food processing), and met with exporters to identify bottlenecks. The minister highlighted the need to speed up customs release times, praising recent upgrades at the Dekheila port and the capabilities of more than 30 laboratory sites that test imported and exported goods.
In parallel, the Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashim, visited the MERGEM plastic‑industry clusters (1, 2 and the under‑construction MERGEM 3) and several small‑scale manufacturers, emphasizing the role of these zones in supporting small investors, creating jobs and boosting exports. The Al‑Aamriya Free Zone now hosts 416 projects with over US$14.7 billion invested, generates roughly 55 000 jobs and recorded US$5.3 billion in export value for 2025.
Both tours underscored the Egyptian government's drive to improve investor services, simplify procedures and expand production capacity to attract additional domestic and foreign capital.
