Egyptian Parliament Pushes for Clear Role of National Investment Bank
Egypt’s Parliamentary Economic Affairs Committee has asked the National Investment Bank (NIB) to submit a comprehensive development strategy and a timetable for its completion. The committee also requested a summary of financial settlements to date and urged the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation to define the bank’s future mandate within the 2026–2030 State Ownership Policy.
MP Mohamed Fouad highlighted that the current State Ownership Policy does not explicitly specify the NIB’s institutional role despite its large investment portfolio and influence over state‑owned assets. During the session, Sayed Zakaria, Managing Director for Credit and Finance at the NIB, presented an overview of the bank’s restructuring efforts, financial settlements and future strategy, which the committee praised for transparency. The lawmakers stressed the need to formalise the bank’s responsibilities in managing state financial assets, restructuring investments and coordinating with relevant government bodies as part of Egypt’s broader economic reform programme.
