Egyptian Stock Market Slides on Wednesday
Egypt's main stock index, the EGX30, fell sharply on Wednesday, dropping between 0.75% and 1.84% to around 52,028 points. The Shariah‑compliant EGX33, the EGX35‑LV, the SME‑focused EGX70 and the broader EGX100 also posted declines of roughly 1.7% to 1.3%. The market’s total capitalisation stood at about 3.78 trillion Egyptian pounds.
Arab investors and non‑Arab foreign investors were net buyers, purchasing roughly 9.5 billion pounds in total, while Egyptian participants were net sellers of about 9.4 billion pounds. Top gainers included Alexandria New Medical Center, Saudi Egyptian Investment & Finance, and Delta for Printing & Packaging. Notable losers were Tycoon Holding, El Arabia for Land Reclamation, and El Ahram Co. for Printing and Packing.
In parallel, Egyptian balanced investment funds reported strong first‑quarter results, with assets under management rising to roughly 3.02 billion pounds and net asset value increasing by about 70.6% year‑on‑year.
