Egyptian Veterinary Syndicate head calls for enhanced food safety amid global Salmonella risks

Dr. Magdy Hassan, the head of the Egyptian Veterinary Syndicate, has highlighted the critical role of veterinarians in preventing global Salmonella outbreaks. He praised the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population for its continuous monitoring and early warning systems, noting that Egypt's epidemiological situation remains stable despite international outbreaks.

Hassan emphasized the importance of the ‘One Health’ concept, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health to manage risks that move rapidly across borders through supply chains. He stated that public health protection begins at the farm and animal level, long before reaching the consumer, through rigorous control of production, manufacturing, and food safety.

To effectively implement this integrated approach, particularly in the poultry and animal protein sectors, Hassan called for addressing the shortage of qualified veterinary personnel and strengthening oversight throughout the food supply chain.
