Egypt's Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk advances smart farming ties with Italy and Uganda
Egypt's Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Alaa Farouk met with Biagio Di Treli, director of Italy's Siam Bari Institute, to discuss cooperation on smart agriculture, joint research and support for small farmers. The talks focused on applying modern farming systems, fish‑farming techniques in greenhouses, and launching advisory campaigns for the “productive village” initiative. Italy expressed interest in investing in Egypt’s agricultural sector and proposed a joint business forum.
In a separate meeting, Farouk received Uganda’s Ministers of Agriculture Frank Kajiji Tomwebazi and State Minister Robert Ndjoga Megadi to deepen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, livestock and fisheries. The delegations reviewed a 500‑hectare joint model farm in Uganda for crops such as corn, soy, wheat and sunflower, and agreed on the supply of about 10 million rinderpest vaccine doses annually from Egypt’s veterinary institute. Both sides also pledged to expand market access for Egyptian poultry and egg products in Uganda.
