Egypt's agriculture ministry seizes smuggled fertilizers and outlines new livestock investment plans

Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, led by Minister Alaa Farouk, carried out expanded inspections in Kafr El Sheikh, confiscating more than six tonnes of smuggled or counterfeit subsidised fertilizer. Two unlicensed shops were shut, with authorities seizing 30 sacks of nitrate, 20 sacks of super‑phosphate, and additional 40 sacks each of urea and soft phosphate, all without proper invoices.

The ministry also reported that around four million bags of subsidised nitrogen fertilizer have been distributed to farmers across all governorates. Field teams continue to monitor the rollout daily, using the “farmer card” system to ensure supplies reach entitled producers without price increases.

In a separate meeting, Minister Farouk hosted a delegation from a major food‑industry company to discuss expanding private investment in Egypt’s livestock sector and upgrading national dairy‑collection centres. The talks highlighted plans to attract new capital, create jobs, boost exports and improve product quality through better animal breeding, veterinary care and modernised collection facilities.
