Egypt's bank assets hit EGP 26.9 trn, investment funds surge 15% in 2026

The combined balance sheet of Egyptian banks (excluding the Central Bank of Egypt) grew to EGP 26.887 trillion in March 2026, up EGP 2.765 trillion from December 2025. Growth was driven by higher customer lending, deposits and investments in securities and Treasury bills, while the non‑performing loan ratio held steady at 1.9%.

In the second quarter of 2026, Egypt’s investment‑fund industry recorded a 14.7% rise in net asset values to EGP 470.9 billion, with assets under management reaching roughly EGP 479 billion. The sector added 15 new funds, boosting total fund units by 40.2% to 44.04 billion. Individual investors owned 74.7% of units, and sector funds delivered the highest average return at 18.82%.

Both developments highlight accelerating expansion of Egypt’s financial sector, with stable asset quality in banking and strong investor participation in fund markets.
