Egypt's Central Pesticide Laboratory Analyzes Over 37,000 Samples

The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation reported that the Central Pesticide Laboratory, part of the Agricultural Research Center, analyzed more than 37,000 samples between January and June 2026. Director Dr. Farag Mlhit said the work followed directives from Minister Alaa Farouk and was overseen by Dr. Adel Abdel Azim.

During the same period the laboratory conducted 189,000 regulatory activities across Egypt’s governorates, withdrew and examined 2,460 samples from markets and customs, and carried out 186,701 inspections of pesticide outlets together with the Pesticide Committee, the Central Pest Control Administration and environmental police. Food‑safety testing included 30,574 crop samples for pesticide residues and 4,022 pesticide‑product samples, ensuring compliance with international maximum residue limits. Quality checks were performed on 1,996 product samples, and 75 pre‑harvest trials were completed.

The lab also delivered new toxicity studies—eight acute and nine environmental—accredited to ISO‑17025, aimed at supporting export certification. These activities are intended to protect farmers and consumers, improve the safety of Egyptian agricultural products, and boost the competitiveness of Egypt’s agricultural exports in regional and global markets.
