Egypt's Education Minister Announces 100 New Applied Technology Schools

Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif said Egypt will launch 100 new applied‑technology schools in the upcoming academic year, expanding the country's vocational education network to 225 schools by 2026/27. The initiative is part of a broader reform to align curricula with labour‑market needs, improve student attendance (now 87%) and raise learning outcomes – UN‑conducted tests show the share of students with weak reading and writing fell from 45.5% to 13.9%.

The plan includes partnerships with European countries, notably Italy, to provide international certifications and expertise. In a meeting with the Egyptian Industries Union and other ministries, the minister highlighted joint funding, teacher training and the supply of materials for sectors such as textiles, furniture, logistics, maritime, food, agriculture and hospitality. The council overseeing education, research and innovation will monitor progress and report to President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi every six months.
