Egypt's Edugate 2026 Forum Opens to Chart Future of Universities

The ninth edition of Edugate 2026, an international higher‑education and training forum, opened on 28 July at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre in Cairo. Organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Egypt Center for International Exhibitions, the three‑day event gathers more than 120 universities and academic institutions from 25 countries.

Under the theme “Towards Future Universities,” the forum’s agenda targets rapid advances in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, biotechnology and their impact on the labour market. Sessions bring together ministers, university presidents, industry leaders and experts to discuss curriculum redesign, research translation, technology‑transfer and entrepreneurship.

Minister of Higher Education Dr Abdulaziz Qansowa stressed the need to link education directly to market needs, saying that “building the universities of the future starts with connecting education to the job market.” He highlighted a shift from pure scientific publishing toward tangible economic and societal impact, and outlined plans to expand AI‑focused programmes, dual degrees and industry partnerships.

The program continues in Alexandria until 2 August at the Hilton Green Plaza, providing a platform for regional cooperation and innovation in higher‑education policy.
