Egypt's Food Subsidy Card Review Targets High-Income Users and Violators

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade is conducting a systematic review of the 2026 food‑subsidy card database to ensure assistance reaches eligible households. Criteria for exclusion include families with high incomes or pensions, owners of expensive or multiple vehicles, companies valued over 10 million EGP, large landowners (over 10 feddans), individuals convicted of building‑code violations or electricity theft, parents of children enrolled in costly private schools, and senior officials.

Beneficiaries whose cards are removed can appeal. The Ministry advises checking card status through the Egypt Digital portal, then submitting a grievance online and filing supporting documents at the local supply office. If the appeal proves the exclusion was improper or the underlying violation has been rectified, the card is re‑activated and the citizen receives compensation for the period the subsidy was halted. The process emphasizes transparent data verification and aims to protect the most vulnerable while removing undeserved recipients.
