Egypt's Foreign Minister advocates for UN reform in New York

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty engaged in intensive diplomatic activity on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. His mission focused on advocating for the interests of the Global South and promoting reforms within the multilateral system, specifically targeting the United Nations and the Security Council to ensure fairer representation for African and developing nations.

Key priority areas discussed included reforming the international economic structure, addressing the debt crisis in developing countries, climate finance, and sustainable development. Abdelatty held meetings with candidates for the UN Secretary-General position, officials from the World Bank, and UN humanitarian coordinators.

Additionally, the Egyptian mission hosted several ministerial events, including a meeting of the Quadripartite Mechanism involving Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, as well as a ministerial meeting of the G8+ developing nations regarding the Palestinian cause. The mission also organized a roundtable on early recovery in Gaza and signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations to enhance cultural cooperation.
