Egypt's Higher Education Ministry advances digital transformation in universities

The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research continued its digital transformation program for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. In January 2026 it launched a cloud‑computing platform for universities and research centres, receiving about 2,400 registration requests. The ministry also upgraded firewall security across public universities and delivered specialised IT‑security training for staff.

A new “Tamkeen” electronic platform was introduced to improve services for students with disabilities. Data from 2014–2025 were made available through APIs linked to the government’s digital exchange (G2G), enabling automated data flows for decision‑making dashboards. The electronic testing system now hosts a question bank of over 1.8 million items, is used in 203 colleges and has administered roughly 75,000 digital exams.

Automation of university hospitals progressed, with 19 hospitals fully operational, 23 in pilot mode and 37 preparing for trial runs. The ministry conducted workshops and training programmes to build digital skills among university IT staff. Minister Abdulaziz Qansowa highlighted the projects as central to creating a smart, knowledge‑based economy and expanding artificial‑intelligence applications in higher education.
