Egypt's internal trade chief says digital reforms boost investor appeal

Engineer Meti Beshay, head of the Internal Trade and Supply Committee at Egypt's General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, said the country's digital transformation and simplification of customs procedures are enhancing the market’s attractiveness to foreign and Arab investors. He highlighted recent successes in attracting investment to strategic sectors such as energy, industry, information technology and infrastructure, and noted that falling inflation to 14.6% in May 2026 and a stable exchange rate are improving market confidence.

Beshay stressed that continued reforms—online services, streamlined government steps and an upgraded customs clearance system—lower business costs, speed up trade and increase the competitiveness of the Egyptian market. He added that the private sector is becoming a key partner in the state’s industrial development strategy, opening opportunities for technology transfer, localisation of production and job creation, which together should raise exports and sustain economic growth.
