Egypt's Irrigation Minister reviews groundwater sector and digital licensing plans
Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, held a meeting to review the operations of the groundwater sector and the implementation of digital transformation plans for groundwater well licensing.
The initiative aims to achieve electronic governance to simplify licensing procedures for citizens, improve services for beneficiaries, and enhance the sector's ability to monitor groundwater wells nationwide. The plan includes expanding the electronic licensing system across all departments to ensure full digital transition.
Additionally, the Minister emphasized several strategic goals: enforcing legal actions against groundwater violations, promoting modern irrigation techniques for lands relying on groundwater, and transitioning to solar energy to power wells. To support long-term management, Sewilam also directed intensive training for young engineers to prepare a new generation of professionals for the sector's responsibilities.
