Egypt's Minister Manal Awad closes 32 unlicensed shops in Cairo
Egypt's Minister of Local Development and Environment, Dr. Manal Awad, received a report from the ministry's internal audit and governance department on intensive field inspections carried out in four Cairo neighborhoods—Hadaek Al‑Qobba, Al‑Zeitoun, Al‑Maadi and Al‑Bastatin.
The inspections included large‑scale cleaning operations, removal of waste and enforcement of Law No. 154 of 2019. As a result, 32 shops operating without the required licenses were shut down after legal warnings, and about 50 shop owners were urged to regularize their activities. A building violation in Al‑Maadi was also removed immediately. The actions, coordinated with the municipal police, aimed to improve traffic flow, public order and environmental quality. Minister Awad confirmed that continuous monitoring and field visits will continue across all local units to enhance service efficiency and safeguard citizens' rights.
