Egypt's Ministry of Local Development conducts inspections and infrastructure projects

Egypt’s Minister of Local Development and Environment, Manal Awad, has overseen a series of field inspections and infrastructure projects aimed at improving governance and environmental compliance across several governorates.

In Qalyubia, inspection teams removed illegal concrete structures and unauthorized floors in buildings, including a 12-story structure built outside urban boundaries. Additionally, a new safe sanitary landfill was inaugurated in Shalateen, Red Sea, at a cost of approximately 80 million EGP to enhance waste management infrastructure.

In Giza, governance and internal audit committees conducted inspections in the Al-Haram and Boulaq al-Dakrur districts. Efforts focused on improving service delivery at technological centers and addressing citizen complaints. In Boulaq al-Dakrur, authorities cleared approximately 90 cases of street encroachments and closed 18 unlicensed facilities to restore public order.

Furthermore, the Ministry is working with the Waste Management Regulatory Authority to implement the national information system for waste and the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system. Environmental branches also conducted 108 inspections of industrial, medical, and waste facilities to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
