Egypt's Petroleum Ministry denies gold mining deal reports with Sudan

Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources issued a statement on 19 June 2026 rejecting social‑media reports that it had signed investment agreements for 108 gold and precious‑metal mines in northern Sudan. The ministry said the alleged deals were attributed to Minister Karim Badawi and circulated on unofficial pages run from abroad, describing the claims as categorically false and groundless.

The ministry added that no official announcement or comment was made to any media outlet, stressing that all contracts and agreements are announced only through its official channels. It also highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at expanding Egypt's mining sector and increasing its contribution to GDP, and warned it would pursue legal action against those spreading false information.
