Egyptian authorities seize spoiled poultry and fine bakeries in Faiyum and Beni Suef
In the governorate of Faiyum, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade seized more than half a tonne of contaminated poultry from a popular restaurant. Tests showed the birds were infected with the infectious bursal disease virus, rendering them unfit for human consumption. The seized 517 kg of poultry and related products were confiscated and the case handed to police for further investigation.
A separate inspection campaign in the governorate of Beni Suef resulted in 134 supply‑related violations at municipal and tourist bakeries. Infractions included under‑weight loaves, non‑conforming bread, lack of price labeling, unsanitary equipment and over‑pricing. Officials issued fines and reinforced daily monitoring to ensure compliance with the state‑subsidised flour program and protect consumers.
Both operations are part of a nationwide effort by Egypt’s Ministry of Supply to tighten market oversight, combat fraud, and safeguard public health ahead of upcoming supply cycles.
