Egypt's Water Minister advances digital transformation and Nile development

Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, is overseeing several initiatives to modernize water management and develop the Nile River waterfront.

As part of the 'Water System 2.0' goals, the Ministry is advancing digital transformation through the implementation of digital twin technology. A pilot project is being launched for the Ismailia Canal and its branches, utilizing a telemetry network to create a digital model that simulates the water system. This real-time data integration aims to improve monitoring, maintenance, and decision-making regarding water distribution and operational efficiency.

Additionally, the Ministry is reviewing proposals to develop Nile waterfronts by constructing walkways as part of the 'National Project for Regulating the Nile River.' Studies conducted by the Nile Research Institute aim to identify locations that maximize social and economic benefits, such as tourism and urban improvement, while ensuring the hydraulic stability and morphological balance of the river are not compromised.
