Egypt's Water Minister Hani Suweim orders removal of illegal Nile structures

Minister Hani Suweim, after receiving a report from Abu Bakr Al‑Roubi, head of the Nile Protection and Development Sector, said the state is acting to eliminate encroachments on the Nile and its branches.

To date, 37 illegal structures have been cleared from an 8‑km stretch in the Manial Shihah area of the Shubra‑Helwan sector, and 518 illegal buildings have been removed from the Rashid branch. The operation is coordinated with the military land projects agency, security forces and the Giza governorate. The national “Nile Regulation Project” aims to restore the river’s capacity, enforce state control over the riverbed, develop river walkways and protect water resources from further damage.
