Egypt's Water Minister joins global forums on water security
Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hany Sewilam, is participating in high-level international forums focused on water security and sustainable management.
In New Alamein, Egypt, Sewilam joined a session regarding the ‘African Water Vision 2063: From Vision to Implementation’ as part of the Eighth Strategic Meeting on Gender. The session addressed implementation pathways, financing mechanisms, and continental cooperation to transform water priorities into actionable projects. This aligns with the African Union’s 2026 agenda to prioritize water and sanitation to achieve sustainable development and climate resilience. An implementation plan for 2026–2033 is currently being prepared with Egyptian participation.
Additionally, Sewilam is attending the 2026 Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum in Rome, Italy. The forum, which includes representatives from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Union for the Mediterranean, brings together experts from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Discussions focus on addressing water scarcity, climate change, and non-conventional water resources, such as desalination and water reuse, to foster regional and international cooperation.
