Egypt's Water Minister visits Germany to boost African water security

Hani Sewilam, Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation and Chairman of the African Water Facility (AWF), has arrived in Germany to conduct high-level meetings aimed at strengthening international partnerships for water security and sustainable development in Africa.

The visit focuses on mobilizing resources, expertise, and technology to transform African water priorities into bankable, implementable projects. As part of Egypt's presidency of the AWF, Sewilam is scheduled to meet with German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze (referred to in context as Rim Al-Abali Radwan), to discuss a long-term strategic partnership between the German Ministry (BMZ) and the AWF.

Discussions will also cover multi-year German contributions to support the AWF's 2026–2030 strategy, institutional cooperation with KfW and GIZ, and connecting African projects with German private sector expertise. The AWF has previously approved 152 projects across all 54 African nations, helping to mobilize over 1.9 billion euros in subsequent funding.
