Eight Drivers Arrested for Drunk Driving in Suwałki, Poland

On the morning of 6 July, police from the Suwałki highway patrol conducted sobriety checks on Suwałki roads, testing more than 1,200 drivers. Eight individuals were found to be driving with blood‑alcohol levels above the legal limit and were detained.

The arrested drivers were operating a range of vehicles, including a Renault, a Volkswagen, a Ford, a Toyota, a heavy‑truck combo, and a bicycle. Blood‑alcohol measurements varied from over 0.6 ‰ to more than 1.6 ‰. One of the drivers was a Lithuanian citizen, who was placed in a police cell pending an accelerated court hearing. All eight lost their driving licences, and Polish law provides for up to three years' imprisonment for driving while intoxicated.
