Driver Mustafa Fevzi Merdun buried in Manisa after Denizli bus crash

On the night of 31 May, a Pamukkale Turizm Mercedes passenger bus traveling the İzmir‑Antalya route left the Aydın‑Denizli highway near Sarayköy, Denizli, collided with a barrier and caught fire. The crash killed eight people, including the 50‑year‑old driver Mustafa Fevzi Merdun, and injured 33 others.

Investigators found that Merdun had a record of 36 traffic violations, among them a prior conviction for drunk driving. A wide‑ranging judicial and administrative inquiry has been opened to examine possible negligence.

A funeral ceremony for Merdun was held in his hometown of Selendi, Manisa, where he was buried after a midday prayer at the Selendi Central New Mosque. Local officials, family members and residents attended the service.
