Overview

The July 2026 wave of severe road accidents in Turkey continued throughout the month. On 24 July, a truck collided with a car in the Çığlık neighbourhood of Doğanşehir, Malatya, overturning the vehicle; the driver and two passengers were injured and taken to Malatya Education and Research Hospital. The same day, a driver on the Çan‑Bayramiç highway near Etili swerved to avoid a wild animal, causing the car to roll onto a field; all three occupants escaped unhurt.

On 29 July, multiple fatal incidents were reported. In Bursa’s İnegöl district, a tractor rollover killed Şaban Tanrıverdi. An ambulance transporting a patient collided with a fuel tanker on the Samsun‑Ankara highway, injuring six people, including the patient and three emergency‑service workers. In Giresun’s Alucra district, a car lost control and rolled into a riverbed, killing three occupants and injuring three others. Another crash in Bursa involved an 18‑year‑old driver whose vehicle struck a tree, resulting in a total loss and hospitalization. In Zonguldak’s Karadeniz Ereğli, a newly‑licensed driver was detected by a traffic‑monitoring drone running a red light at a pedestrian crossing; he was fined 5 662 TL, had his licence points erased and the licence revoked.

Authorities also maintained legal actions, including a Northern Cyprus court sentencing motorist İbrahim Tımbıl to 2½ years for a 2025 motorcycle crash. The Interior Ministry’s 2026‑27 Motorcycle Safety Action Plan and heightened enforcement remain in force, with officials urging compliance with signs, speed limits and alternative routes.
