One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda announces manga extension and new films

During the One Piece Day 2026 event, creator Eiichiro Oda provided updates regarding the future of the One Piece franchise. Oda indicated that the manga will continue for at least another four years, suggesting the story may extend into the 2030s. While the series is currently in its “Final Saga,” the author noted there is significant narrative material remaining to be explored.

Several major projects were announced to expand the franchise. Two new theatrical films are in development: “One Piece Film: God Valley,” scheduled for a summer 2027 release to coincide with the manga’s 30th anniversary, and “One Piece Film: BAAD,” slated for 2029. The God Valley film is expected to be the first fully canon theatrical entry, adapting the God Valley Incident flashback.

In addition to the films, WIT Studio will release a seven-episode remake titled “THE ONE PIECE” on Netflix in February 2027, covering the first 50 chapters of the manga. The live-action series is also expected to return in 2027 with its third season, “The Battle of Alabasta.”
