Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji Orders Free Medical Care for Kidnap Victims

On April 28, 2026 gunmen attacked a Christ Apostolic Church service in Eda Oniyo, Ekiti State, abducting 15 worshippers; a pastor was killed and one captive later died. After 66 days, security forces rescued 14 survivors, who were taken to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji visited the victims, announced that the state will bear all medical expenses and provide psychological support, and settled the hospital bills of three indigent patients. He thanked President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, traditional rulers and community leaders for their role in the rescue, and warned against politicising insecurity, calling security a fundamental human right.

The governor also directed the Ministry of Health and Human Services to oversee the victims’ welfare and ensure comprehensive medical screening until they are fit to return to their families.
