Ekiti Governor Oyebanji Backs State Police Bill and Praises Tinubu’s Development Agenda

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the state’s 30‑year development plan while urging swift approval of the proposed state police legislation. He told reporters that all 36 state governors have expressed readiness to endorse the constitutional amendment once transmitted to their assemblies, saying, “We are ready for state police. We are thankful to the National Assembly for the constitutional amendments, and we are waiting for them to be transmitted…”.

Oyebanji also highlighted his recent re‑election, crediting President Bola Tinubu’s support and attributing his victory to “the grace of God and the support of the President”. He declared that the electoral contest was over, urging all political actors to move from “electioneering” to governance and to cooperate in delivering the development plan. In related statements, he pledged continued fertilizer distribution for farmers and called for unity among parties to address insecurity.

The governor’s remarks come amid broader national discussions on decentralising policing to improve security, with Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele noting that safeguards are being built into the amendment to prevent abuse.
