Ekrem İmamoğlu İBB trial continues with 414 defendants

The high-profile trial involving 414 defendants, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, continues in Silivri. The indictment alleges the existence of a criminal organization led by İmamoğlu, claiming a public loss of approximately 160 billion lira and 24 million dollars. 53 defendants remain in detention.

During recent hearings, several defendants and their lawyers submitted requests for release. Mehmet Murat Çalık's lawyer highlighted serious health concerns, noting a state hospital report indicating a risk of leukemia recurrence. Resul Emrah Şahan, the detained Şişli Mayor, denied all corruption allegations and issued a call for political reconciliation and trust-building between the state and its citizens.

Melih Geçek, also a defendant, denied charges related to spreading personal data and being an organization member. Meanwhile, lawyer Mehmet Pehlivan, who is also detained, has shared reflections on prison life, describing the increasing normalization of pretrial detention in the Turkish judicial system.
