Eku Energy and Iberdrola launch major utility‑scale battery projects in Germany and the US

Eku Energy announced the acquisition of a 400 MW/1,600 MWh battery energy storage project near Lamspringe, Lower Saxony, Germany. The company will lead development and design, working with German developer NION and battery supplier Fluence, aiming for commissioning by the end of 2029. Eku Energy, jointly owned by the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation and a Macquarie‑managed fund, already has over 25 GWh of storage projects worldwide.

In the United States, Iberdrola’s U.S. subsidiary Avangrid began construction of the Shutler battery project in Gilliam County, Oregon. When operational in 2027, the facility will provide 41 MW of power capacity and store 82 MWh of electricity, supporting grid reliability and renewable integration in the Pacific Northwest.
