El Hierro: Over 500 migrants rescued from three vessels
Salvamento Marítimo rescued over 500 migrants from three precarious vessels near the island of El Hierro in the Canary Islands. The rescued individuals were transported to the port of La Restinga.
The largest group, consisting of 268 people including four minors and 17 women, had been at sea for eleven days after departing from the Varela Natural Park in Guinea-Bissau. This group included nationals from Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Conakry, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, and Ivory Coast. Upon arrival, three individuals required medical assistance, with one being transferred to a local hospital.
The other two vessels carried 99 and 150 to 190 people respectively. These rescues occurred along the Canary Islands migration route, which is considered one of the most dangerous maritime paths in the world.
