El Niño forecast impacts Bolivian summer crop campaign

The El Niño phenomenon is expected to influence the upcoming summer crop campaign in Bolivia. While high soil moisture reserves, currently estimated at 70-80%, provide a strong foundation for production, the forecast for above-normal rainfall presents both opportunities and risks.

Experts from INTA warn that while increased precipitation can boost yields in areas with good soil, it poses significant threats to plots with poor drainage. Excessive water may lead to flooding, loss of planted surface area, and deterioration of grain quality. Additionally, high moisture levels could increase the prevalence of pests and diseases.
