El Niño outlook prompts guidance for farmers in Argentina and Peru

Meteorologist Leonardo De Benedictis addressed producers in Firmat, Argentina, explaining that while the northeast may see strong impacts, most agricultural areas will benefit from expected rainfall, with the main El Niño phase occurring from October to December and a generally positive campaign outlook.

In Peru’s Tarma province, officials led by Ing. Omar Estares Porras and representatives from the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI) held a workshop for farmers. They warned that rains will arrive later than usual, be below normal levels, and recommend planting early‑season crops and relying on irrigated fields, noting that about 15,000 ha of rain‑fed land could be affected. Continuous monitoring was agreed upon.
