Scientists, including researchers from CONICET, anticipate that spring will bring increased rainfall and river flooding, particularly in the Litoral and Cuyo regions.
In Ecuador, heavy rains have already triggered significant emergencies. The National Risk Management Secretariat reported 70 active adverse events, with the Esmeraldas province suffering the most damage due to floods and landslides. In the Eloy Alfaro canton, approximately 1,500 people have been affected by river overflows.
Meanwhile, in Peru, the ENFEN commission has raised alerts, stating that the Coastal El Niño could maintain extraordinary magnitude through January 2027, affecting precipitation and fishing resources. In Guatemala, seasonal waves are also causing risks of flooding and landslides, prompting local authorities to issue safety recommendations.
