El Paso Borderland faces severe thunderstorms and critical fire danger

A warm, dry and windy pattern will dominate the El Paso Borderland and nearby Pikes Peak region through the weekend, raising fire‑weather concerns to critical levels into early next week. The National Weather Service warns of breezy to windy afternoons daily, with the strongest gusts expected Sunday and Monday, and temperatures climbing on Saturday.

Simultaneously, meteorologists highlight a heightened risk of showers and thunderstorms, some capable of becoming severe, particularly across northeastern El Paso County, the Palmer Divide and the eastern plains. Residents are urged to stay alert for gusty winds, possible hail and lightning as the cooler, wetter weather set‑in later in the week.
