El Prat Airport operations disrupted by control tower power failure

An electrical failure in the control tower at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport caused a temporary suspension of all takeoffs and landings on Wednesday afternoon. The outage forced air traffic controllers to regulate traffic, leading to significant delays and aircraft waiting on the ground.

Aena reported that the electrical supply to the tower was fully restored approximately one hour after the initial failure was identified. While power has returned to 100%, airport operations are being restored progressively. Air traffic controllers noted that aircraft are landing with much greater spacing than usual to manage the backlog.

Eurocontrol also reported significant delays. Passengers have been advised to check their flight status directly with their airlines as the accumulation of operations may cause disruptions for several hours.
