Puebla reports 37% drop in intentional homicides in June 2026
The state of Puebla recorded a 37.3% decline in intentional homicides in June 2026, with 47 victims compared with 75 in the same month of 2025 – the lowest figure in the last 11 years. The reduction reflects a coordinated security strategy involving the three levels of government, reinforced investigative capacity and continuous support for police forces, as emphasized by Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier.
During June, authorities carried out 1,094 operations, detaining 397 people, retrieving 294 stolen vehicles, seizing 117 illicit units, and confiscating 195,931 liters of hydrocarbons, 923 doses of cocaine, marijuana and crystal, 31 firearms and 13 ammunition magazines, as well as 103 illegal surveillance cameras. Notable arrests included Orlando Alexis N., linked to violence near Mercado Morelos, and Diego N., a suspected member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The Secretary of Public Security, Vice‑Admiral Francisco Sánchez González, highlighted that from January to June the total homicide count fell 21.1% year‑on‑year (360 versus 456 victims), underscoring the impact of intelligence sharing, focused operations and permanent police presence.
