El Salvador courts hand down up to 55 years in prison for gang members

El Salvador's Second Organized Crime Court in San Miguel sentenced 124 members of the Sailor Locos Salvatruchos MS‑13 clique to up to 55 years in prison, including a 55‑year term for alleged homeboy Henry Javier Rivera. The convictions cover crimes ranging from illegal grouping to a 2014 massacre in Jiquilisco.

In a separate case, the Second Organized Crime Court in Santa Ana handed five members of the Batos Locos Salvatruchos (BTS) clique sentences of 30 to 40 years, with the highest term given to alleged courier Cristian José Ortiz Herrera. The court found the defendants involved in illicit group activities across several colonies in the Santa Ana district.
