El Salvador deploys troops to Haiti following disappearance of four aviation technicians

El Salvador has significantly reinforced its military presence in Haiti to locate four aviation technicians who disappeared following an ambush in the Croix-des-Bouquets area near Port-au-Prince on October 18. The technicians, part of the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF), were traveling in an armored vehicle when they were attacked by armed gangs.

Recent deployments have brought the total number of Salvadoran soldiers in Haiti to approximately 450. These reinforcements include special forces arriving via C-130J transport aircraft. While some reports suggested the discovery of four charred bodies in the area, President Nayib Bukele has explicitly denied these findings, stating the remains do not match the physical characteristics or uniforms of the missing Salvadoran personnel.

In response to the crisis, Dominican President Luis Abinader has offered logistical and intelligence support to El Salvador and has increased military surveillance along the Dominican-Haitian border, deploying drones, aircraft, and armored vehicles to prevent gang activity from encroaching on Dominican territory.
