El Salvador electoral registry reaches 6.5 million citizens

El Salvador’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) reported that 6,517,342 citizens were enrolled in the electoral registry as of July 15, 2026, in preparation for the elections scheduled for February 28, 2027. This figure represents an increase over the 6.2 million registered for the 2024 elections.

The registry includes 5,544,825 citizens within the national territory and 972,517 citizens living abroad. The growth in the overseas registry specifically includes an additional 231,423 people compared to the previous election cycle.

Registration remains open until November 29, 2026. Citizens are encouraged to update their residency information on their Unique Identity Document (DUI) to facilitate voting. The deadline for domestic address updates is August 27, 2026, while the deadline for those abroad is November 29, 2026. For Salvadorans residing overseas, the updated information is linked to an electronic internet voting process set to begin on January 30, 2027.
