El Salvador expands international educational partnerships

El Salvador is expanding its international educational cooperation through new agreements in the United States and China.

In Chicago, the Salvadoran Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Harry S. Truman College. Facilitated by Vice Minister of Diaspora and Human Mobility Patricia Nathaly Godínez, the agreement aims to provide the Salvadoran community in Chicago with access to English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, technical training, and continuing education to improve labor market integration.

Simultaneously, China is awarding government scholarships to Salvadoran students for the 2026–2027 academic year. The program supports undergraduate and graduate studies across 17 Chinese universities in 25 specialized fields, including artificial intelligence, biomedicine, renewable energy, and logistics engineering. The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen bilateral ties and technological development between the two nations.
