El Salvador is pursuing a multi-faceted expansion of its educational and human capital initiatives through international partnerships and significant domestic investment. The educational overhaul aims to support students from early childhood through higher education, incorporating AI tutors, updated curricula, teacher training, and increased computer access. To bolster this digital shift, the government is advancing its first submarine fiber-optic cable project, supported by $145 million in sovereign financing from CAF - Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. This infrastructure is expected to be operational by the second half of 2028 to quadruple data capacity. Expanding its international academic reach, El Salvador has entered a US$9 million cooperation agreement with South Korea to implement the “Korea Innovation Nexus for R&D Collaboration” project. Over five years, this initiative will fund a state-of-the-art Innovation Center at the University of El Salvador, featuring laboratories for automation, digital manufacturing, and prototyping. Additionally, Salvadoran students have secured full scholarships through the Elim Foundation in South Korea to pursue advanced studies in aerospace engineering and bioactive materials.
