Dominican Republic accumulates US$27.755 billion trade deficit with China
The Dominican Republic accumulated a trade deficit of US$27.755 billion with China between 2019 and 2025. During this seven-year period, imports from China grew significantly, while Dominican exports to the Chinese market remained largely stagnant.
According to data from ProDominicana analyzed by political scientist Juan González, the country exported only US$1.852 billion in goods to China during this timeframe, compared to US$29.607 billion in imports. In 2025 alone, Dominican purchases from China reached US$5.381 billion, while exports to China were just US$309 million, representing a deficit of approximately 95% of the total bilateral trade for that year.
