El Salvador sees low homicide days amid MS-13 murder arrest

The National Civil Police (PNC) in El Salvador arrested two men for the May 9 homicide of a woman in a vacant lot in Nejapa, San Salvador Oeste. The suspects were identified as 53‑year‑old Marvin de Jesús Guzmán Osorio, known as “Shui,” a member of the MS‑13 gang’s Nejapa Locos Salvatruchos clique, and 19‑year‑old Miguel Ángel Anaya Gómez. Police say the victims and suspects drank together by the San Antonio River before moving to the empty property, where the woman resisted a sexual assault attempt and was struck on the head with a blunt object, leading to her death. The perpetrators attempted to conceal the body with a bag and tires.

Separately, the PNC reported that El Salvador has now recorded a total of 1,211 consecutive days without any homicides nationwide. In May alone, nine days (May 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12) registered zero murders, extending the country's historic low‑violence streak.
