El Salvador to expand overseas voting centers to 92 for 2027 elections

El Salvador’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) plans to expand the number of voting centers abroad to 92 for the 2027 elections. This represents a 14% increase from the 81 centers utilized during the 2024 elections.

The centers will be distributed across 29 countries using a face-to-face electronic voting system. The United States will host the majority of the infrastructure with 53 centers, accounting for 58.5% of the total, with California having the highest concentration at 10 centers. Other locations include four centers each in Canada and Mexico, three each in Spain and Italy, and two in Australia. The remaining 23 countries will each host one center, including Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Colombia, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the Dominican Republic.

TSE President Roxana Soriano stated that the planning is based on experiences from the 2024 process, diaspora participation trends, and suggestions from citizens abroad to improve access and organization.
