EL-SEN union strike continues at KIB-TEK

The strike by the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Employees Union (EL-SEN) has entered its fifth day, with no resolution reached between the union and KIB-TEK management. EL-SEN has stated they are prepared to end the strike if their demands are provided through official written guarantees.

Key union demands include ensuring occupational health and safety, providing complete protective equipment, and preventing workplace accidents. Additionally, the union is calling for transparency in employment processes, specifically requesting that appointments, promotions, and assignments be conducted through official exams and collective bargaining agreements rather than through unofficial appointments.

EL-SEN President Ahmet Tuğcu indicated that other unions, including KTAMS, Kamu-Sen, Kamu-İş, and BES, are providing support and may initiate their own actions to bolster the strike. Conversely, KIB-TEK management has criticized the union for obstructing services despite a Cabinet decision to postpone the strike. The company also reported that some union members are under police investigation regarding suspected damage to institutional property.
