KIB-TEK and EL-SEN labor strike

The labor dispute between the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK) and the EL-SEN union began with a strike that lasted eight days. EL-SEN demanded improved occupational health and safety, the provision of protective equipment, and greater transparency in employment, promotions, and assignments through official exams and collective bargaining.

During the strike, KIB-TEK management criticized the union for obstructing services and noted that some members were under police investigation for suspected property damage. Other unions, including KTAMS, Kamu-Sen, Kamu-İş, and BES, expressed support for the action.

An agreement was eventually reached to end the strike. The settlement includes the formation of a joint four-person committee for occupational health and safety and the immediate provision of necessary equipment. To resolve disputes regarding staffing, recent promotion decisions will be frozen for review by a commission, and it was confirmed that no new employment occurred during the strike. Both parties agreed to suspend industrial actions until elections are completed and ensured that no disciplinary investigations would be conducted against personnel.
