El Vendrell residents demand action over street waste buildup

Residents of El Vendrell in Catalonia have filed a formal petition with the Salut department of the Generalitat, urging immediate measures to address the chronic accumulation of garbage on streets and public spaces. The complaint cites continuous waste buildup, especially overnight, heightened by second‑home owners, insufficient collection frequency, a shortage of containers, and problems linked to newly installed smart bins.

The neighbourhood association is calling for intensified street cleaning, disinfection of containers, pest‑control actions, and an adjustment of collection schedules to match the actual waste volume. Municipal officials responded that the door‑to‑door collection system must be respected, that residents should use the smart‑bin access cards correctly, and that proper waste separation is essential to prevent such situations.
