Elazığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum opens in Turkey

The Elazığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum has officially opened to the public in Elazığ, Turkey. The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, along with local officials including Governor Numan Hatipoğlu and Mayor Şahin Şerifoğulları.

The new museum features approximately 2,000 artifacts distributed across archaeology, ethnography, and numismatic sections. The facility is designed to preserve and showcase the thousands of years of civilization and cultural heritage found in Elazığ and the broader Anatolian region.

Minister Ersoy noted that the city's institutional museum history dates back to 1965. The previous museum building, which served from 1982 to 2016, was heavily damaged during a terrorist attack in 2016 and subsequently closed. The new museum is housed in a historic structure originally built in 1885 as the Mülkiye İdadisi and Sultaniye Mektebi, which was transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism following discussions with the Ministry of National Defense.
